Salvation Ahead
Text: 1 Peter 1:3-12
Theme: We have glorious salvation to look forward to past the trials of this life.
Key verses: “…It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance–an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So by truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine…So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world” (v. 3-7). “The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you” (v. 9-11). “…And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven…” (v. 12).
What God said to me: Son, you truly have no idea what I saved you from. You can’t possibly comprehend how rich and gracious my salvation and grace is toward you. You have been born again. Think about that. You are a new creature. You have a new heart. You are equipped with my Holy Spirit to lead and empower you. Your sins are forgiven; you’re not receiving what you deserve. I imputed my righteousness inside of you, and my Son’s blood has washed away your sins–past, present and future. You have my divine protection and love on your life. Yes, you will face and experience trials. Yes, you are not immune from conflict and disappointment and great difficulty. But remember, they will be short-lived at best. Endure to the end, for in doing so, you will receive a great reward, and you will receive praise and honor because of your faith and faithfulness.
What I said to God: Thank You, Lord for meeting with me this morning. I praise You for loving and saving me. I am not worthy on my own merit to receive anything but death and hell. Yet, through Your great love and mercy You have raised me up and blessed in heavenly places through Your grace. Only by Your grace and power can I hope to endure the trials ahead. But I trust You, and I will follow You all the days of my life. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all my days, and I will dwell the house of the Lord forever.
