Obedient

20. May 2019 1 Peter 0

Text: 1 Peter 1:13-25

Theme: God demands and deserves nothing less than our complete obedience.

Key verses: “So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you…So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires…But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, ‘You must be holy because I am holy.’…the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do…For you know God paid a ransom to save you…It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless spotless Lamb of God” (v. 13-19). “You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other…For you have been born again…Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God” (v. 22-23).

What God said to me: Son, I am your Father. I am the One who paid an awful price to purchase you and give you life and hope. I deserve your full obedience in everything. Why do you still sneak away and do what you want to do? Do you think I am asleep? Do you presume I don’t see you? Or, do you just not care that you are disobeying me and hurting me? I demand and expect you to follow me in every step you take. As I told Joshua, you are not to deviate from my instructions, turning to right or to the left–not in the least bit. Listen for my still, small voice whispering in your ear today. If I tell you to open your mouth and share my love with someone today, then do it. Don’t hesitate. If I tell you to give money to something or someone, then do it; don’t think twice. If I warn you not to go somewhere or contact someone or do something, then stay away. I am your Father. I love you more than you love your own sons. I sent my Son to die for you. What else must I do to deserve your faithfulness, obedience and love? Trust me with every aspect of your life. I want to bless you and use you more in the future. However, that will only happen IF you fully obey me.

What I said to God: Holy and faithful Lord, my God and my eternal Father, I know Your Word will never pass away. I know You are the final and ultimate authority. You are the one and only true God. I worship You today. In this moment I bow my head and heart to You alone. Please forgive me for willful sins, both those I commit as well as omit. I am grateful that You still love me and are still holding on to me, despite my rebellious ways at times. Please fill me with Your Spirit today and use me. Please continue to provide for our needs and lead our family and ministry. You are the awesome, wonderful, majesty Lord! Help me follow Your every command.
