Spiritual Boot Camp
Text: 1 Timothy 4:6-8
Theme: we are responsible for our training in the Truth.
Key verses: “…brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” (v. 6-8).
What God said to me: So, you assume I have little to say to you today? You think there’s little in this passage that you need to hear and grasp today, aye? One question for you: are you godly? Have you arrived? Thus, you have no need for further training? Clearly the answer irehousing have not arrived in your spiritual growth. Paul may seem to be “preaching to the choir” when he says this to Timothy, because Timothy had already demonstrated his desire to grow in his faith. However, Timothy still needed to be reminded, admonished and recharged about his discipline. Dwayne, I love you enough to tell you you get lazy and overconfident all too often. You must search my scripture and pray and seek my face. There are no shortcuts to living in my presence. You know how hard it is for you to strain to lift weights in the gym. How much harder should you strain to unearth gold in my Word? Beware of socalled new and cool ideas and philosophies of ministry and prosperity. Follow hard after my Truth that’s contained within my written Word. Push yourself to meet consistently with me. Meditate day and night on my Word. Rebuke the devil so he will flee from you. Godliness is profitable in all things. Go get godly.
What I said to God: Jesus Savior, Author and Finisher of my faith, thank you for meeting with me and so powerfully reminding me of my great and constant need to grow in your Word. Forgive me when I don’t push hard and discipline myself in godliness. My mind runs astray on ungodly thoughts so often. Help me focus on you and you alone today. I love you, but I know my deeds and thoughts must support those words.
