Text: Romans 4:1-8

Theme: God erases our sin because of our faith.

Key verses: “For the Scriptures tell us, ‘Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith’ (v. 3). “But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it: ‘Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin'” (v. 5-8).

What God said to me: Read Psalm 32:2. Notice what David says, “What joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!” And then remember what Paul said in Colossians 2: “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.” Dwayne, I do not hold your sins against you. My Son took the penalty of your sin–all of your sin–when he died on the cross. In that you should have joy, much joy in fact, and gratitude. Paul here in Romans wanted his readers to clearly understand that righteousness–being right in my sight–doe not happen because of anything you or any human can do. It only comes by placing your faith in my dear Son to save you. That is why and how I forgive you. But understand this about faith: Faith includes believing and trusting and surrendering fully to my ways and will. If you really trust in me and really have faith in me then you will do whatever I tell you. You will know my way is the best way for you to go. You will not listen to your flesh or be swayed by what the world around you says is fulfilling or important. I know what is best for you. More importantly, I am the Lord, your Master. You are bought with a price. You are not your own. Do you believe that? Do you truly believe me? Then live each day like you do. Placing your faith in me sealed your salvation and your place in heaven. But continuing to follow and trust me in complete honesty will bring you great joy and bring me great glory.

What I said to God: Thank You, my Father, for meeting with me this morning and for speaking so clearly to me through Your Word. I am amazed by Your grace and by Your love and power. You are truly a God worthy of my faith and allegiance. You are the King of kings and Lord of lords. May I keep You on the throne of my heart today and everyday.
