Text: Romans 3:1-8

Theme: God is always right and fair and faithful.

Key verses: “True, some were unfaithful; but just because they were unfaithful, does that mean God will be unfaithful? Of course not! Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him, ‘You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court.’ ‘But,’ some might say, ‘our sinfulness serves a good purpose, for it helps people see how righteous God is. Isn’t it unfair, then, for him to punish us?’…Of course not! If God were not entirely fair, how would he be qualified to judge the world?” (v. 3-6).

What God said to me: I am always right. I am entirely fair. I am forever faithful. Such bold and blanket statements make some tilt their heads and squint their eyes in wonder and disbelief. “How can God be fair with all the suffering we have in this world?” they say. “How can we know God is always right and true when what he does seems at times to make no sense at all?” That is where faith comes in, Dwayne. You have to believe what you cannot see. You have to trust in ways and thoughts that are much higher and more perfect than yours. In your life and with your life you have to trust in me, your heavenly Father. I love you and always have your best interest in mind. Don’t ever forget that. As your Father in heaven, I am not only aware of everything about your life, I am also able to take care of everything in your life, to guide and protect you everyday. But here is the bottom line: Even if you don’t trust me completely, even if the world mocks my claim to complete and perfect knowledge and fairness, in the end I will be the one proven to be correct. One appears in a court room and stands before a judge after a significant life-event has occurred. Judging someone is always an after-thought. The courtroom is the final show-down, if you will, where all will be disclosed and the truth will be revealed. In the end, Dwayne, I will be proven right, and the world with all its false beliefs and selfish motives will be shown to be wrong–eternally and tragically wrong. Which side would you rather be on in the courtroom of life–the world’s or mine? The right side or or the wrong one?

What I said to God: Holy God, Elohim, Adonai, Jehovah God, Messiah, heavenly Father, for this reason I bow my knee before the God who made heaven and earth. I humble myself before You this morning in total surrender. Please forgive me when I take back the reigns of my life–even for a few moments. Every moment of everyday should be completely dedicated to You. You paid the ultimate price for my life and all of my moments and minutes. Every breath I take is because of Your grace and mercy. I’m alive today because You spared my life and gave me extra days on this earth. Please help me make the most of the time I have left. I know one day soon I will appear before You face to face. May I not be ashamed in Your presence. Help my light so shine before people that they are drawn to You–the most holy and perfect and right God.
