Synced with the Spirit

15. February 2014 Galatians 0

Text: Galatians 5:22-25
Theme: Living by the Spirit means locking into every move of the Spirit in our lives.
Key verses: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature…Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited…” (v. 22-25).
What God said to me: Dwayne, this is a huge key in living victoriously and effectively. Lots of Christians would consider themselves as in my will and living for me. They might even have a vague understanding thet they shouldn’t live according to Old Testament Law but rather by my grace and Spirit. What Paul was communicating in part here was that it’s not enough to say we live by the Spirit. Living by the Spirit means doing life with, through and according to the Spirit. You must actually walk every moment in step with whatever the Spirit prompts you to do and say. Paul was dependent on the Spirit for every decision and every move he made. There are so many traps you could avoid if you would simply follow Paul’s example and charge. My Spirit will teach you all things. He will be your counselor and guide. But it must be more than some pie-in-the-sky idea that has no real relevance or effect in your daily living. Living by my Spirit is something you must do seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.
What I said to God: Lord, You know so well how busted I am right now. There have been countless hours I’ve not been controlled by Your Spirit. Every day that is not s Spirit-filled day is a wasted day. I realize and fully believe that, and yet I go on wasting time walking dangerously outside Your step and Your will. Please forgive and restore me and help me to keep in step with You today. As the old song goes that I sang so many times growing up: “I won’t walk without Jesus. I won’t talk without Jesus. I refuse to live one day without The Lord. Everything that I would do I just won’t do without The Lord.”
