Sonship Has Its Rewards

06. January 2014 Galatians 0

Text: Galatians 3:26-4:7
Theme: Once slaves, now we are sons and heirs of God.
Key verses: “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus” (3:26). “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (3:29). “…when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world. But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son…to redeem those under the law, that we might receive the full rights of sons” (4:3-5). “So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir” (4:7).
What God said to me: You apparently have no idea what I just said to you in my Word. Or at least, you don’t often act like you understand what you just read. Dwayne, you are my heir. Why do you still live like a slave at times? Why do you still obey your flesh instead of me? Why do you ever allow sin to reign in your body? Why are you mesmorized by anything this world has to offer? Hello. Heaven to Dwayne. You are my son. You are Jesus’ brother. Do you get it? The God who made your universe and all the others yet unknown to you–that God is your Father and your Brother. You are heir to my riches and wisdom and all that you will ever possible need. I know you. I made you. I called you out of darkness into my marvelous light. Yes, sonship has its rewards, but you’ve got to stop living in Laodicea. Live everyday as a stranger of earth and a citizen of heaven.
What I said to God: Yes, Lord, yes, to Your will and to Your way. What can deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God–through Jesus Christ our Lord! Infuse in me the heavenly, upward vision of You on Your throne, interceding for me and watching everything I do and hearing everything I think. I do want to finish well. I do want to finish the tasks and mission You have ordained for me. Please forgive my strayings. I die to myself today and reckon myself to be alive in You. Praise You!
