Text: Romans 2:6-16

Theme: God will judge everyone.

Key verses: “He will judge everyone according to what they have done. He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good…But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. There will be trouble and calamity on everyone who keeps doing what is evil–for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good…For God does not show favoritism (v. 6-11). “For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight (v. 13). “And this is the message I proclaim–that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life” (v. 16).

What God said to me: Good morning Dwayne. Look around you. Look outside. See the sunshine. Feel the cool crisp air. I have given you another glorious day to serve me and enjoy my presence with you. Stop and listen and observe. My goodness and faithfulness and blessings are all around you. Use this time of quarantine to draw close to me, to learn of me, for I am meek and lowly of heart, and you will find rest for your soul. Nothing that is happening in the world and in your world has taken me off guard. I got you and your team home from Africa as I promised you I would. I will never leave you, forsake or fail you. You are my precious child, and your family and team are precious to me. You are highly valued and loved. That said, don’t think for a moment that you are my favorite child or that I will overlook your sins and disobedience. I will not. I do not play favorites with anyone. I am your God first and foremost, and I expect and demand complete surrender to my will and word. It is good that you are here meeting with me, reading and meditating on my written Word this morning. But you must go from here and obey me throughout your day. I know your secrets. I know your hidden motives. I see your every thought. I do love you unconditionally, but you will nonetheless be judged for what you do, not for whose you are.

What I said to God: Wow Lord. I needed this stark reminder this morning. Thank You for assuring me of my value and worth to You as Your child. Please help me not take that love for granted or abuse it by doing whatever I want. You are the one who works in me both to will and to do Your good pleasure. I can’t even want to obey You without Your strength and grace on me. Help me listen and learn and follow You closely today and every day. I pray that over my boys as well; may they draw close to You and trust You.
