We Have Seen His Glory

29. December 2015 John 0

Text: John 1:1-14
Theme: The glory of the Son is undeniable
Key verses: “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it (v. 1-5). “The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become the children of God” (v. 9-12). “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son” (v. 14).
What God said to me: Son, stop and pray…Don’t ever light into journaling what you claim to have heard from me, without first humbling yourself and praying with listening ears and a surrendered heart. I will tell you nothing until you have confessed and forsaken your sins and stopped to acknowledge me. Now, go back and reread the verses from John 1. I have more to show you…Now that you’ve reread it and included another verse in your key verses, ask the Holy Spirit to illumine your heart and mind about this passage. I know you approached it this morning with some hesitancy and lack of enthusiasm because you thought you’ve seen all there is to see in this opening chapter. Not so. Pray and ask for discernment…Here’s the question for you to ponder: Is it possible to see my glory and not recognize it? Is it possible to stare into the face of Jesus and not see his unfailing love and faithfulness? Is it possible to “see” my glory through the works of my Son and not realize it? These are questions I want you to mull over and meditate on for the next few days. The answer is profoundly important as you strive to lead others in worship of me. So don’t pass this by without resolving these questions in your mind and soul. Search my Scriptures. Pray and listen. I want to reveal myself through you in greater ways than you’ve been used before. But you must grasp what John is saying in this foundational chapter about my Son.
What I said to God: Wow Lord, I don’t recall You ever speaking so clearly and yet in such shrouded language before. You want me to meditate on this and search out these questions more. I will do just that. But please, Holy Spirit, reveal to me in time what it is You want me to see, what it is I need to see. Forgive me for taking my eyes off of You, Jesus. Forgive me if I have seen Your glory but completely missed it or, worse yet, rejected you in some way. Help me “see” Your glory again and honor You with my whole heart and life. I pray too for my boys and my wife, Father, that they would catch a glimpse of Your awesomeness. Shine down Your light on us, most Holy One. Then help us shine Your light through us to everyone we meet.
