Back to the Basics of Fear, Knowledge & Discipline

07. February 2015 1 Corinthians 0

Text: Proverbs 1:1-7
Theme: There are many beneifts to fearing God and knowing His Word.
Key verses: “The proverbs of Solomon…for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair” (v. 1-3). “The fear of The Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools dispise wisdom and discipline” (v. 7).
What God said to me: Dwayne, this is your missing element, the discipline you need so desparately but avoid so reqularly. You must commit yourself to meeting with me in this place every morning. Remember the vow I insisted that you make when you were only 15? You promised me then you would always rise early to meet with me. Dwayne, I’ve called you to this. I count on this and expect this of you. Quick devotional moments before you head out the door for work will never suffice. I have much to show you, much I want you to teach to others. But you must make ample time to hear from me and to meditate on my Word. There you will attain wisdom and discipline. It all starts with a healthy fear of me. Do you fear me, Dwayne, really? Do you honor and respect me enough to keep the vow you made so many years ago? How much I can use you in the future depends on how disciplined you are to meet with me now. See you to it.
What I said to God: Holy and awesome God, your ways are past finding out. How great are you, God, beyond our understanding. Thank You for speaking so clearly to me this morning. I will rise early this coming week and meet with You here at my kitchen table. Help me remember and do what I have vowed. I’m excited to learn and grow again. Thank You!
