Nothing But the Truth
Text: Galatians 5:7-12
Theme: Other people can get us off track from the truth if we allow them.
Key verses: “You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you” (v. 7-8). “I am confident in The Lord that you will take no other view. The one throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be” (v. 10).
What God said to me: Son, people can be easily swayed. The issue at stake here was more than mere difference of opinion on minuscule matters. The churches in Galatia had stopped obeying the truth. Notice Paul didn’t say “a truth” or “my truth” or “your idea of truth.” Paul said “the truth.” The truth will set you free. The truth is non-negotiable, narrow, and not up for a vote. In the age you are living there are many who prefer relative truth–relative to what they want to believe and to what they want to do. But truth will always be truth, and Paul was warning these churches and all believers not to be deterred from obeying and following the truth. The truth is that only Christ can set you free. He has called you to be free. And as you run toward Him and His ways, let no one persuade you differently. Study to show yourself approved–a workman that needs not to be ashamed.
What I said to God: Thank You, Father, for speaking clearly to me this morning. I love these special times with You in Your Word. I know the only way to stay on the “straight and narrow” is to carefully and consistently study and meditate on Your Word. Forgive me when I take other people’s word for ideas that may in fact be foreign to Your Word and will. Thank You for warning us through Paul not to be “cut in on” and hindered during our life-long race.
