Known by God

08. January 2014 Galatians 0

Text: Galatians 4:8-9
Theme: What should motivate us more than knowing God? Being known by God.
Key verses: “Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God–or rather are known by God–how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles?” (v. 8-9).
What God said to me: I know you. I formed you in your mother’s womb. I foreknew you before the foundation of the earth. I know your name, what you think, what makes you tick. I know you, Dwayne Moore and I’ve called you to be my son forever. Let that sink into your soul. Deep down into your innermost self. Let your mind wrap around that profound truth. I know you–not from a distance, not socially on Facebook, not casually at church. I know you intimately–and I love you unconditionally in spite of your glaring inconsistencies and failures. Paul understood something that you too need to realize. There is nothing more humbling and powerful that being known and loved by Creator God. Why in this world would you ever stray? Why would you want to return to your vomit like an animal? Let your gaze look straight ahead. Fix your eyes on me and live. I am your Father. I have loved you with an everlasting love. Now act like I know you. And don’t make me ashamed to be called your God.
What I said to God: Wow, and I thought this was going to be an easy day! Thank You Father for speaking so clearly and directly to me. You know my thoughts. Please try me and know my heart. See if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in Your way everlasting. You know me. You’ve called me to holiness and to heaven. Help me walk worthy of the calling wherewith You have called me.
