Law Doesn’t Get It Done

28. November 2013 Galatians 0

Text: Galatians 3:1-9
Theme: Only faith justifies us like Abraham was.
Key verses: “…Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?” (v. 2-3). “Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand…So then those who are faith are blessed with believing Abraham” (v. 7-9 NKV).
What God said to me: Dwayne, only faith will save you. No amount of good works will get you into my Kingdom. I know you have grown past this basic truth. I know you don’t put stock in your works for salvation from the presence of sin in heaven. Your justification is complete and your inheritance sealed. But your fooliishness shows itself when you apparently forget you’ve been saved by faith and also by grace, and you proceed to do whatever you want. As you discovver as you continue in Galatians, such selfish behavior is not acceptable amond those who have been saved.
What I said to God: Thank You, Father, for reminding me rather sternly that I cannot ignore or forget your grace that has made a way for my salvation. Please help me keep my mind and heart’s affections on You today. This is Thanksgiving. I am most grateful that You live in my heart and that You are guiding my life. I am most grateful that You have forgiven me and that You died in my place.
