Leaving the True Gospel

06. February 2013 Galatians 0

Text: Galatians 1:6-9
Theme: Paul warned of distorting the truth of the gospel.
Key verses: “Frankly I am stunned. I cannot believe that you have abandoned God so quickly–even after He called you through the grace of the Liberating King–and have fallen for a different gospel, and you–because of divisive prodding by others–are accepting a distorted version of the Liberator’s promise, which is not the gospel at all!” (v. 6-7) “Listen again: if anyone preaches to you a gospel other than what you have accepted, may he find himself cursed!” (v. 9)
What God said to me: Dwayne, there is only one truth. There are not different versions of the same truth. What was wrong before is still wrong now. What I said is right and lawful is still right and lawful now. Be careful that you are not deceived–lulled into sleep and deception that your “approach” and belief about your actions is necessarily acceptable to me. It is only acceptable if it clearly lines up with my written Word. I will reject you as my servant. I will not tolerate arrogance and rebellion. It doesn’t matter if you like or appreciate or even understand my commands. They are what they are–my commands. Search the Scriptures, for in them you will find life, health and peace.
What I said to God: Holy God in Heaven, majestic Lord above all else, creator of the Universe, I bow down before You. Please forgive my rebellious ways. I confess that I sometimes try to justify or ignore my actions, or at the very least assume You will simply forgive them no matter how often and intentionally I commit them. You do forgive. You are faithful and merciful and kind. But yet, there are far too many passages that also show you hate the wicked and will cast off those who do not heed Your Word. I know my salvation is secure and Heaven is my home. Please help me not to be a castaway on this earth–even after I have preached so much to others.
