Holy, Faithful and Teachable Brothers

08. January 2007 Colossians 0

Text: Colossians 1:1-8 Theme: Paul wrote Colossians for sincere saints. Key verses: “To the holy and faithful brothers in Christ at Colosse…” (V.  2) “We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints…” (v. 3-4) “All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard of it and understood God’s grace in all its truth.” (v. 6) “Epapras…told us of your love in the Spirit.” (v. 8) What God said to me: Dwayne, welcome to Colossians. I have much to teach you in these short 4 chapters. Don’t rush through it, but don’t get stalled either. This letter has great application today because my people are still hindered by the same temptations as were the Colossian believers: to seek salvation through some supposed “secret” knowledge and superior behavior. My Son is all anyone needs for life and hope and forgiveness and salvation. He is supreme above all. Paul wrote to these sincere and receptive saints to warn them of such extra-cirricular spirituality beyond Christ. The Christians at Colosse were faithful to me, and they clearly loved each other. Paul appealed to their teachable and humble hearts. This letter continues to reach out to my passionate and precious ones. As holy and loving as you may strive to be, you can still be dupped by the enemy if you don’t stay in my Word. Stay humble. Listen closely to my voice through the words of my servant, Paul. What I said to God: Thank You, precious and holy One. You are my all in all. Open the eyes of my heart to receive and obey whatever You speak to me through this book. May I in turn pass these truths on to others who would also be tempted to fall from the simple and profound truth of Jesus, the One and only.
